grow up (2013)
So often, children will wish their childhood away. All they dream about is growing up because in their mind, everything is better when you’re older. But then, those children grow up and realize that being an adult isn't all it’s cracked up to be. They want to go back to a time when the biggest dilemma on their hands was if they wanted grape or strawberry jelly on their PB&J.
I have found myself in this very situation. I’m experiencing a frightening transition in my life. I want responsibility but at the same time, I wish to let go of everything and be carefree. I wished my life away and now I just wish I would have taken advantage of my childhood. This is why I decided to illustrate this idea by photographing a woman of my age in very child-like situations. She is thinking about the childhood she missed, caught in the conflict between longing to go back and the responsibility of growing up.
